Reviewed feeder type
Hummingbird Feeder
A nectar dispenser that supplements—not replaces—nectar-rich flowers and insects.
Advantages
- Close views of hummingbirds
- Simple food recipe
- Can supplement gaps in bloom
Limitations
- Requires cleaning every few days
- Sugar solution spoils faster in heat
- Leaks can attract insects
Placement
Hang in shade and out of strong wind. Separate multiple feeders when one bird dominates.
Cleaning
Clean every couple of days and more often in heat or heavy use; clean immediately if cloudy or moldy. Use plain white sugar and water at 1:4, with no honey, dye, or sweetener.
