Platform Feeder
An open tray with room for birds that do not cling to narrow ports.
Advantages
- Broad, stable landing area
- Easy to see and refill
- Accepts several food sizes
Limitations
- Exposed food can get wet
- Droppings can contaminate food
- May be accessible to squirrels
Placement
Use a sheltered site with drainage. For window safety, place it on the glass or within 3 feet of a window; keep escape cover nearby without creating an easy squirrel launch point.
Cleaning
Empty old food, remove debris, wash every week or two and more often in wet or busy periods, rinse, and dry completely before refilling.
