Oriole birds
American orioles are members of the blackbird family, Icteridae—not the Old World oriole family. Identify the species before applying range, migration, food, or feeder advice.

Identify an oriole
Use overall size and shape, pointed bill, plumage pattern by age and sex, voice, habitat, and geographic range. Orange color alone is not enough for identification.
Supporting orioles
Prioritize native plants that support insects, fruit, nectar, and canopy structure. Where the species and season are appropriate, small quantities of fresh fruit or correctly prepared nectar can supplement habitat.

Remove spoiled fruit promptly and keep nectar equipment clean. Do not offer large jelly quantities that can soil feathers, and never use honey, artificial sweetener, or red dye in nectar.
